Tankless water heater repair starts with what the unit does when you open a hot tap. It may not light, or it may light and quit halfway through a shower. It may run hot, then cold, or show an error code on the display. We repair natural gas and propane units, indoor and outdoor, in houses, rentals and small commercial buildings.
Wright Flow Plumbing and Heating does repairs and maintenance on water heaters, tank and tankless. We are based in Edgewood and work Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales and the East Mountains. When a tankless will not light, we start where one maker's no-ignition checklist starts: the gas supply. Is the gas on at the heater, the meter or the cylinder? On propane, is there gas in the tank? Then come the inlet gas pressure, air in the gas lines, the igniter and the flame rod wire.
If the burner lights and then quits mid-shower, that manual lists a separate no-flame code. Its checks repeat the gas supply, the gas pressure and the flame rod wire. When the trouble is the gas supply itself, that is gas line installation and repair work, including pressure tests.
The same manual says the burner needs at least 0.4 gallons per minute of flow to fire. A clogged inlet filter or a low-flow fixture can hold the flow near that line. Water that runs hot, then cold, can mean flow near that minimum, the manual says. When nothing happens at all, its checklist includes cleaning that filter.
A tankless that shuts itself down often shows a code on the display. Each maker sets its own codes, so the number points to a checklist in the manual for that model. On one maker's units, code 10 means a blocked air supply or exhaust, or a full condensate trap. Its checks cover the condensate line, the air filter, the vents and the fan.
Scale from hard water shows up in the codes too. Albuquerque's water authority calls its water moderately hard to hard, depending on the source and blend. That manual's sensor codes include cleaning scale off the sensor. Its overheat code says to check the heat exchanger for hot spots from scale build-up.
Scale builds faster when the heater is set at a high temperature, the manual says. Damage from lime build-up is not covered by that maker's warranty. Our water heater maintenance page covers descaling flushes and maintenance plans.
That same maker's manual has a high altitude setting with four elevation bands. The bands run 0 to 2,000 feet, 2,001 to 5,400, 5,401 to 7,700 and 7,701 to 10,200. The default is the lowest band. The manual lists the altitude setting among its checks for code 10.
Edgewood sits near 6,700 feet, so a unit left on the default there is two bands off. Albuquerque runs from about 4,900 feet near the Rio Grande to over 6,700 feet in the foothills. That puts houses in one city in different bands. On units with an altitude setting, we check it against your elevation.
On 120-volt power and out of direct wind, that manual says indoor models protect themselves from freezing down to 22 degrees below zero. Outdoor models are protected to 4 below zero. If the power or the gas goes out in freezing weather, it says to drain the heater by hand. Freeze damage is not covered by that maker's warranty.

Of all the plumbers I called for help, this is the only company that could fit me in same day. David came out within an hour of me calling and fixed the issue. He stayed on it until it was done, and I am so grateful that he was there when I needed help the most. He didn't charge an arm and leg, which was so appreciated in my situation. I will definitely be calling him in the future.
David always has a solution, I am an active real estate investor and he has been there from boilers, plumbing, sewer, septic systems, shower valves and more. Great Job and as always thank you
