Faucet Replacement · Edgewood, NM

Leaky faucet repair and new faucet installation

A faucet that drips or leaks under the sink needs faucet repair or faucet replacement. We do both for kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, tubs and showers, and outdoor hose bibs. Wright Flow Plumbing and Heating is based in Edgewood and works across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales and the East Mountains.

Many drips need only one new part. When the faucet itself is worn out, we install a new one with new supply lines. Faucets are one part of our plumbing repair work, and a slow sink drain is a drain cleaning job.

What We Handle

  • Leaky and dripping faucet repair: washers, gaskets, cartridges and O-rings
  • Single-handle faucets that drip or will not shut off all the way
  • Kitchen faucet replacement with new braided supply lines and angle stops as needed
  • Bathroom faucet replacement, including widespread faucets and pop-up drains
  • Faucet installation on a new bathroom vanity, including the P-trap
  • Tub and shower faucet repair: cartridges, trim plates, handles and shower valves
  • Outdoor faucet and hose bib replacement, including frost-free hose bibs
  • Water pressure checks with a gauge at a hose bib

Leaky faucet repair or faucet replacement

The EPA says old and worn faucet washers and gaskets frequently cause leaks. Many newer faucets seal with a cartridge and O-rings, and those wear out too. A single-handle faucet or a shower handle that will not shut off often needs a new cartridge.

Faucet replacement makes more sense when the body is corroded or cracked, or parts are gone. A worn finish or a new style is reason enough too. A tub and shower faucet may need just a cartridge and trim, or full shower valve replacement behind the wall.

A small drip adds up: the EPA says one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons per year. Septic is common in the East Mountains, Corrales and Placitas. The EPA says all the water a household sends down its pipes ends up in its septic system. So on septic, a leaky faucet sends every drip to the tank.

What does a kitchen or bathroom faucet replacement include?

First we shut the angle stops under the sink, or the main if a stop will not close. We pull the old faucet and set the new one with new braided supply lines. Seized or weeping angle stops get replaced, and so does a worn pop-up drain or trap. Then we turn the water on and check every joint for leaks.

The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority calls its water moderately hard to hard. Scale from that water can clog aerators and cartridges. White particles that clog a faucet may be scale from the water heater, the Water Authority says. Flushing the tank is a water heater repair job.

WaterSense bathroom faucets use a maximum of 1.5 gallons per minute, against a standard flow of 2.2, the EPA says. A 2011 federal law cut the lead limit for faucet parts that touch water to a 0.25 percent weighted average. The old limit was 8 percent, so an older faucet may predate the rule. Inside Albuquerque city limits, installing or altering kitchen or bathroom piping needs a plumbing permit.

Outdoor faucet and hose bib replacement for East Mountains winters

Winters in Edgewood and the East Mountains bring hard freezes, and a hose bib sits in the cold. Albuquerque's Water Authority says to disconnect and drain outdoor hoses. Taking the hose off lets the water drain so an overnight freeze does not burst the faucet. It also says to insulate faucets and exposed outdoor pipes.

We replace a split or leaking hose bib, or upgrade it to a frost-free hose bib. A frost-free hose bib shuts the water off back inside the heated wall, where it stays warm. A hose left on can trap water inside and split it, so take the hose off before a freeze.

If a hose bib or the pipe behind it bursts in a freeze, shut off the main. Then call us for emergency plumbing, and burst pipe repair explains what happens next. We take emergency calls 24 hours a day, and we will get you scheduled as fast as we can.

FAQ

Faucet Replacement Questions, Answered

Common questions about faucet replacement across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, the East Mountains and about 70 miles around Edgewood. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (505) 306-8285

Should I repair or replace a leaky faucet?
Repair it when the body is sound and the drip comes from one worn part. Replace it when the body is corroded or cracked, parts are gone or the leak keeps coming back. We check it first and tell you which way we would go.
How much does faucet replacement cost?
The price turns on the faucet you pick and what the job needs around it. Seized angle stops, old supply lines or a leaking pop-up drain add parts and time. A tight cabinet or a tub valve behind the wall takes longer to reach. We look first and give you a free estimate, so call (505) 306-8285.
Do I need a permit to replace a faucet in Albuquerque?
The City of Albuquerque's code exempts replacing plumbing fixtures with the same type of configuration from a plumbing permit. Installing or altering kitchen or bathroom piping does need one. Outside city limits, the office that issues permits where you live sets the rules.
Why is my faucet losing pressure?
When one faucet slows down, a clogged aerator is a common cause. Hard water scale can plug its screen, and a clean or new aerator often brings the flow back. If every faucet is weak, we can check the house water pressure with a gauge on a hose bib.
Can you replace an outdoor faucet with a frost-free hose bib?
Yes, when the water line comes through the wall from inside the house. Its long body puts the shutoff inside the wall, out of the cold. Keep the hose off in winter so it can drain.
Do you replace faucets in rentals and commercial restrooms?
Yes, landlords and property managers are a recurring part of our work. So are small commercial buildings like offices, shops and restaurants. We also replace faucets in manufactured and mobile homes. A running toilet in the same unit is a toilet repair job we handle too.

Of all the plumbers I called for help, this is the only company that could fit me in same day. David came out within an hour of me calling and fixed the issue. He stayed on it until it was done, and I am so grateful that he was there when I needed help the most. He didn't charge an arm and leg, which was so appreciated in my situation. I will definitely be calling him in the future.
