A mini split that quits in a January cold snap leaves a cold room in a hurry. So does one that blows room temperature air in July or drips water down the wall. Wright Flow Plumbing and Heating does mini split repair and service on ductless heat pumps. We are based in Edgewood and work Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, the East Mountains and about 70 miles around.
We start with what the unit is doing, then trace it to the part behind it. It might be a dirty filter, an iced coil, a plugged drain, a refrigerant leak or a failed board. Putting in a new system is a separate job, covered on our mini split installation page.
Tell us about the job. We will get right back to you.
In cold, damp weather, frost builds up on the outdoor coil. The unit stops heating for a few minutes to melt it off, then goes back to work. That defrost cycle is normal. A coil that stays caked in ice, or a unit that never comes out of defrost, needs a repair.
Snow and ice cause their own trouble. Snow drifted against the outdoor unit or ice built up under it can starve the coil of air. Brush the snow away, but never chip ice off the coil with a tool. A unit that keeps getting buried may need to sit higher on a stand.
A unit sized for a mild winter falls behind first. Cold climate models are built to keep heating in deeper cold. Edgewood sits near 6,700 feet, and a cold snap up here can reach 20 below. If the boiler or furnace quits in the same storm, we handle boiler repair and furnace repair too.
Water running down the wall under the indoor head is a drain problem. In cooling mode the head pulls water out of the air, and a small line carries it outside. A clogged line or a failed condensate pump sends that water onto your wall instead. Shut the unit off and call before the drywall gets soaked.
No cooling, or room temperature air from the head, often starts with a dirty filter or coil. A clogged filter can even shut the unit off until it gets cleaned. Low refrigerant means a leak, since the charge does not get used up. We find and repair the leak before we recharge, and federal rules bar venting refrigerant on purpose.
Error codes and blinking lights point toward the failed part, and each maker uses its own codes. Write down the code or count the blinks before you call. A grinding or rattling outdoor unit often comes down to a fan motor or a loose part. A dead remote may just need batteries, while a head with no power at all starts at the breaker.
Filters are the easy part of mini split service. A Department of Energy guide says to clean the filters in a ductless heat pump about every three months. Vacuum off the dust, and wash sticky or discolored filters in warm soapy water. Let them dry before they go back in.
A service visit goes past the filters. We clean the indoor and outdoor coils, flush the condensate line and check the fan motors and refrigerant charge. Rentals, offices, shops and casitas do best on a set schedule, once before winter and once before summer. Property managers can put every unit on a preventative maintenance plan.

Of all the plumbers I called for help, this is the only company that could fit me in same day. David came out within an hour of me calling and fixed the issue. He stayed on it until it was done, and I am so grateful that he was there when I needed help the most. He didn't charge an arm and leg, which was so appreciated in my situation. I will definitely be calling him in the future.
David always has a solution, I am an active real estate investor and he has been there from boilers, plumbing, sewer, septic systems, shower valves and more. Great Job and as always thank you
