Furnace and Heater Repair in Edgewood, NM

Furnace Repair · Edgewood, NM

No heat calls on furnaces and wall heaters

Furnace repair is a cold night call. The heat quits after dark, or the wall heater pilot will not stay lit. Wright Flow Plumbing and Heating works on gas forced air furnaces, wall furnaces, gas wall heaters and floor furnaces. Call (505) 306-8285 and tell us what the heater is doing.

We are based in Edgewood and work Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, the East Mountains and about 70 miles around. Heating repair and plumbing sit under one company here, for homes, rentals and small commercial buildings. Boiler, baseboard and radiant floor heat falls under boiler repair, and ductless units under mini split repair.

Why is my furnace or wall heater not heating?

Many wall heaters and older furnaces use a standing pilot. A pilot that will not stay lit often points at the thermocouple. Newer furnaces light with a hot surface igniter, and a flame sensor proves the flame is there. A cracked igniter leaves the burners dark, and a dirty sensor shuts them off seconds after they light.

A furnace that runs a few minutes, shuts off and starts again is short cycling. A clogged filter is a common cause, because the furnace runs hot until the limit switch cuts the burners. A dirty flame sensor can look much the same. We check the filter first, then the sensor and the switch.

Burners that light with no blower point at the blower motor, its capacitor or the control board. A blower that runs while only cold air comes out usually means the burners are not lighting. Then we look at the igniter, the gas valve and the board. A thermostat that stopped calling for heat can look like a dead furnace too.

Furnace repair in Edgewood, the East Mountains and Albuquerque

Gas furnaces are rated for elevation, and the maker publishes the high altitude adjustment. Edgewood sits near 6,700 feet. A furnace never adjusted for altitude can run poorly. When one keeps acting up, we check its setup against the maker's instructions.

By Census estimates, about three Albuquerque homes in four heat with utility gas. About one Edgewood home in six heats with propane. In Cedar Crest and Sandia Park, fewer than one home in ten has utility gas. We work on heaters that run on either fuel.

Around Edgewood we expect cold snaps near minus 20, and storms usually bring heater calls. In February 2011, Albuquerque lows hit 7 below zero, and gas utilities cut service to over 30,000 New Mexico customers. Homes in Bernalillo and Placitas were among them, and each had to be relit by hand. Some rural communities in northern New Mexico went days without heat.

Gas smells, carbon monoxide and a yearly heating service

If you smell gas, leave the house first. Call the gas utility, or your propane supplier, from outside. Then call us for the repair. Leaks in the piping itself fall under gas line installation and repair.

Carbon monoxide, or CO, has no smell or color. The Consumer Product Safety Commission counts about 170 deaths a year from CO made by consumer products other than cars. Furnaces and room heaters are among the sources. The commission advises a professional heating inspection every year and CO alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas.

A yearly heating service checks the furnace before the cold makes it work hard. We clean and test the burners, the igniter or pilot and the flame sensor. We look over the flue and venting for blockages, corrosion and loose joints, then check the filter and safeties. We finish by running a full heating cycle and watching it.

FAQ

Furnace Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about furnace repair across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, the East Mountains and about 70 miles around Edgewood. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (505) 306-8285

What does furnace repair cost?
The part drives most of it. A flame sensor or a thermocouple is a smaller job than a blower motor or a control board. Access matters too, since a furnace in a tight attic takes longer than one in a garage. We give you a free estimate before any work starts, and the furnace repair cost guide lists market ranges.
Do you work on wall heaters and floor furnaces?
Yes. We work on gas wall heaters, wall furnaces and the floor furnaces some older homes still have. Wall heater repair often comes down to the pilot, thermocouple, gas valve or the gas supply in the cabinet.
Is an old furnace worth repairing?
It depends on what failed. Igniters, flame sensors, limit switches, capacitors and control boards are normal repairs, even on an older unit. The age, the condition of the heat exchanger and how often it fails all weigh in. When repair stops making sense, we will tell you replacement is the better answer.
Our heat went out at night. Can you come out?
Call (505) 306-8285 any hour, day or night. Our 24-hour emergency service takes the call, and we get you scheduled as fast as we can. If the water heater quit too, say so, and water heater repair can go on the same trip.
What should I do if the carbon monoxide alarm goes off?
Do not try to find the source. Get everyone outside to fresh air and call 911 or the fire department. Stay out until responders say it is safe, and do not run an appliance they flag until it is serviced. Once you are back in, call us to check the heater and your other gas appliances.
Do you work with landlords and property managers?
Rentals are a steady part of our work. A tenant with no heat is a call we take day and night. A maintenance plan can put a yearly heating service on the calendar for every unit. We work in houses, manufactured homes and small commercial buildings across the Albuquerque metro and the East Mountains.

Of all the plumbers I called for help, this is the only company that could fit me in same day. David came out within an hour of me calling and fixed the issue. He stayed on it until it was done, and I am so grateful that he was there when I needed help the most. He didn't charge an arm and leg, which was so appreciated in my situation. I will definitely be calling him in the future.
